'Spore City Survey' is Circuit Breaker's first album in over 4 years. In the interleaving period, each band member pursued solo projects, which effectively divided the constituent components of the band in half. Peter released a trio of EPs focussing on guitar and singing, whilst most notably Edward's Editions Mego released LP 'The Oystercatcher', (under the moniker ELS), reduced his synthesizer compositions down to their most minimal and foreboding modality.

The music contained within the new album simultaneously harks back to earlier releases of the group, with looser, more improvisational song-structures, whilst also hinting at possible new horizons. There is recalibrated instrumentation and a greater focus on instrumental compositions. When the voice does appear, the lyrics are far more opaque than their previous agitprop, but the atmosphere is broadly the same. Despite a new beginning, this is undoubtedly the same group once described by Julian Cope as 'Disturbing and cantankerous… a complete, almost hermetically-sealed worldview of considerable force.'
